THE DOMAINE
The Bronac family warrants the destiny of the Domaine since 1783. The Domaine de la Pierre lies within the geographic wine region referred to as "Vin de pays d'Urfé", covering the Forez plain that streches along the Loire valley. The volcanic soils give the wine its character.
We work with passion to communicate the authenticity of the terroir of the Forez plain, producing elegant and refined wines, in the respect of traditions.
OUR WINES
Côtes du Forez Cuvée Spéciale 2016, Gamay
Assemblage of a traditional cuvée of sandy grounds vinified with warm pre-fermentation maceration and of the volcanic cuvée (60%-40%)
Structured, long, with a spicy and volcanic touch
Tasting note: rather intense ruby color, nose more on the dark fruit side with the complexity brought by the volcanic cuvée, typical palate closed but balanced, a pepper touch is present
Comtés Rhodaniens 2016, Gamay
Direct pressurization with as little crushing as possible, filtering of the product prior to start of fermentation 20°C during 2 days thereafter 15°C during 3 weeks, with insertion of lactic bacteria to perform the subsequent malolactic fermentation.
Tasting note: pale pink color, fresh fruity nose, fresh and light palate
Comtés Rhodaniens 2016, Chardonnay
Chardonnay grapes planted on a granitic and schist ground vinified at low temperature following a direct pressurization.
Tasting note: gold and shiny appearance, a delicate nose made of white flowers and pear. The peach taste takes over with a fresh and persisting palate, a beautiful white wine to enjoy for its fruitiness
A BIT OF LOCAL HISTORY
Wine making is an ancient trade in the Forez region. The trade has been particularly developed by monks from communities related to the Cluny monastery, and later by the Forez nobility. The vineyards are located on the west flanks of the Forez plain, exposed to the East and the South East.
The Annet vineyard in Boën was already mentioned in a charter from the Savigny abbey in 980. There are mentions of wine making activities at the Chozieux vineyard back in 1024, and at Chaptut vineyard in 1252, and a number of literature references to the dynamism of the region's wine making trade, one from 1606 when Anne d'Urfé wrote:
"Boën is a little town where there is a good vineyard, especially in a place named Courbine, that produced a particularly good wine"
One of the first references to the Domaine de la Pierre can be found in 1654. It belonged to the Challaye family until 1783, date at which it was transmitted through marriage to Joseph Florimond de Bronac de Vazelhes.
